摘要:The Leaf Area Index (LAI) is widely used in forestry activities. In this paper, we assessed the capability of EO-1 Hyperion data in forest leaf area index(LAI) estimation, and study vegetation indices (VIs) for estimating forest LAI with the Hyperion data. Study site was located in Culai Mountain Farm, Shandong province, China, where had many patches of forest plantations of different species such as Pine, broad-leaf species. Hyperion data over the study site was acquired on May 14, 2005. Atmospheric and geometric corrections were done for Hyperion image. 36 LAI field plots were measured by LAI-2000. A comparison of two methods was made for LAI estimation using Hyperion data. One is the linear regression between field measured LAI and individual band. Another is the model between field measured LAI and four vegetation indices(VIs), NDVI, SR, MSR and NLI. A linear correlation coefficient(R) was calculated between the LAI measurement and each bands or each of the 4 VIs. Both models gave good estimation of LAI. The highest accuracy for two methods were 0.706 and 0.8069 separately. During the 4 VIs, SR has the hgihest correlation with LAI. The most effctive band wavelengths are centered near 681nm, and 962nm.
