The occurrence of plentiful rock fragments embedded in the soil has a very important role in the formation of macmpore in the Liupan Mountains of Northwest, China. In order to'understand and appraise the potential effect of rock fragment on the macropore formation deeply, the variety of the contents of rock fragments and macroporosity and their effects of rock fragments on the macroporostiy and the radius and density of macropore are studied in the Liupan Mountains and the results indicate that the increase of the volumetric content of rock fragment in the soil induces the size of macropores mean radius and the spread of volumes of single macropores, especially the increase of density of macropore with radius 〉 1.4 mm, but its content has very little effect on the density of macropores with radius 〈 1.4 mm. Generally, the effect of rock fragments on the macroporosity becomes higher and higher with increasing soil depth and we can conclude that the formation of macropore in the Liupan Mountains is affected evidently by the biological factors and rock fragments.
