The aim of this study is to identify the key factors driving soil bacterial community composition in subtropical forests. The basic properties of the soil samples collected from three different types of forests Pinus massoniana(conifer),Cinnamomum camphora(broadleaf),and mixed P.massoniana and C.camphora in the Tieshanping Forest Farm of Chongqing were determined. The bacterial community structures of those samples were explored by Illumina MiSeq sequencing. The results indicated that among these three forest types, the conifer forest had the highest available iron content and the highest cellulase activity in soil.Five bacterial genera including Roseiarcus,Streptomyces,Bryobacter,Candidatus_Soilbacter,and Catenulispora were enriched in the broadleaf forest soil. The conifer forest soil showed higher relative abundance of Acidibacter, and Bacillus and Arthrobacter were the marker genera in the mixed forest soil. The soil bacterial community structure of the conifer forest was different from those of the broadleaf and mixed forests(P<0.05).Soil pH,total phosphorus, available phosphorus, and available iron were the key factors affecting the soil bacterial community structure in this forest region.Additionally, the cellulase activity extremely correlated with the soil bacterial community structure(P<0.01).In summary, forest type is an essential factor determining the structure and potential functions of the soil bacterial community structures in subtropical forests. The findings are essential for deeply understanding the ecological characteristics and functions of soil microorganisms in subtropical forests.
